Edison Park Montessori offers exceptional early education for pre-school and kindergarten aged students  in Chicago, fostering growth and learning in a nurturing environment.  Our school follows the Montessori method of education, which focuses on hands-on learning and individualized instruction for each child.

This program is designed to build upon what the children have learned during their preschool years. We focus on all subjects such as geography, science, cultural studies, mathematics, English, reading, and writing. While preschool class has academic possibilities which carry the child well into the elementary level, the developing attention span and growing curiosity of kindergarten-aged children is often met by a longer day with more involved learning activities. Older students are given the opportunity to learn from more advanced academic work which will prepare them for the elementary level. We do our best to instill within each and every child the skills they will need in order to be prepared for all aspects of life.

When children attend Kindergarten at MLCEP they are well prepared for first grade and beyond. At this stage the children continue to read and write, and build upon those reading and writing skills they learned in preschool. Their vocabulary increases, sentence structure becomes more complex, and reading level advances well beyond their years. By the time these children leave the Kindergarten Program they are able to read chapter books, write sentences, have a basic understanding of grammar (nouns, articles, adjectives), etc. As far as mathematics, these children are able to add, subtract, and skip count by the time they leave MLCEP. Special attention is given to the children for readiness for successful transition into the first grade.

Schedule: We offer three different types of schedules: Full Day, Extended Day, and Half Day with Lunch.

The Full Day program starts at 6:30AM and ends at 6:00PM. You can pick between Five Day, Four Day, and Three Day attendance. It includes a hot lunch, morning snack, and afternoon snack, a 30 minute rest period, and outdoor playtime on the playground twice a day: once in the morning and once in the afternoon. All of the children who stay at school more than ten hours will receive three snacks.

The Extended Day program starts at 8:30AM and ends at 3:00PM. You can pick between Five Day, Four Day, and Three Day attendance. It includes a hot lunch, morning snack, and afternoon snack as well as a 30 minute rest period and outdoor playtime on the playground.

The Half Day with Lunch program starts at 8:30AM and ends at 1:00PM. You can pick between Five Day, Four Day, and Three Day attendance. It includes a hot lunch, morning snack, and afternoon snack as well as outdoor playtime on the playground.
